Cool article / trip down memory lane!

Do you remember the 1990-1991 NBA season? It was the year right before our first Western Conference Championship series, so maybe not. Anyway, this guy does, and writes about (among other games) the Jazz' first two games of the regular season -- which were against the Phoenix Suns and played in Tokyo, Japan! Check it out here!

I remember these two games, and the coverage the games got (they even talked about the Utah Jazz on Inside Stuff!!!). If you care, here are the boxscores from the two games: game 1, game 2.

For the record in that back-to-back set Karl Malone averaged 31.0 ppg (15 FTA per game!), 12.0 rpg, 3.5 apg, 0.5 spg and 0.5 bpg. Which, you may remember, is pretty indicative of by how large the order of magnitude Karl was greater than Carlos actually was/is.

Karl Malone throws it down with one of his signature slams

Btw . . . in that picture . . . yes, that's a young Jerry Sloan near Karl's bent knee and a young Phil Johnson (white guy with moustache) in the lower left corner in the image. The third coach could be Gordon Chiesa, but I could be wrong . . . I'm just guessing, as it doesn't look like Gordon at all.

Hey man, thanks for links. I post one of these most everyday as long as something significant happened to write about. This was no exception as this moment forever changed the thought process of pro sports leagues in North America playing regular season games outside the continent. I was just getting ready to turn 16 years old when this happened.

It made it even more of a memorable day in the NBA to see the record-breaking offensive onslaught that took place in Denver between the Nuggets and Golden State Warriors, too.

I'll add your blog to my Blog Roll list.

Take care, and thanks again for the links as well as taking the time to comment on my site.
